Rapidly growing Florida soccer organization joins USL ecosystem

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. & TAMPA, Fla. - The United Soccer League announced today that Shark Coast FC will join USL League Two for the 2026 season.

Founded in January 2024 as NSB Current FC, the club partnered with Southeast Volusia SC to connect local youth soccer participation to college recruitment and professional opportunities in one of Florida’s fastest growing coastal communities. Shark Coast FC will provide a competitive environment that emphasizes excellence, discipline, and character. With its pre-professional team, the club will convene local talent and community stakeholders and create regional economic growth. Shark Coast will also field a USL Academy League team beginning in 2026.

“USL League Two represents an important step forward for Shark Coast FC and our commitment to the New Smyrna Beach community and Volusia County,” said Nate Monsanto, Terry Lippens, and Josh Daniels in a joint statement by club leadership. “League Two provides a proven platform for high-level competition and player development. This structure also creates meaningful opportunities for collaboration between first-team players and youth participants through mentorship, shared learning experiences, and club-led development initiatives.”

Shark Coast FC has grown strong roots to the greater Volusia County community by delivering year-round soccer offerings. The club hosts recreational and developmental youth programming, three annual tournaments, and seasonal camps and clinics. Shark Coast also administers scholarship initiatives to ensure equal access to the sport. The club is also visible in the community via school visits, beach cleanups, food drives, soccer equipment donations, and more.

Despite still being a young club, Shark Coast has an impressive roster of alumni who have featured in its squad. Each of the USL’s 2025 men’s professional title-winners had a player from Shark Coast on its roster. Charles Ahl, who became a key piece of Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC’s run to the USL Championship title, and Heath Martin, who won the double in USL League One with One Knoxville SC, each played for Current FC in the UPSL.

“Shark Coast FC has done a fantastic job building up the infrastructure in what clearly can become a hotspot for soccer development,” said Joel Nash, USL SVP of Youth and Pre-Professional Properties. “As it joins the USL ecosystem, we’re excited to see the club continue to grow and have even more of an impact in its community.”

Shark Coast FC will compete in Southeast Division of League Two’s Southern Conference.
